Wow, looks like the rumours WERE true after all! Apple killed the Pro of Final Cut Pro. That guy who turned the much admired iMovie into garbage has done it again. All they had to do was rewrite the engine with 64 bit support, had proper file handling, rendering titling tools amongst other necessary pro features and keep the same F*&$#@*&& interface as pro users of ANY pro software don't want to re-learn an interface for no reason! It takes YEARS before you really know a software under the hood.

We'll now see FCPx turn into a hit with amateurs and will be completely abandoned by pro users who will all return to avid.
Oh, they'll all switch to Avid to avoid learning a new interface, but of course, they won't have to learn a new interface to use Avid instead of FCP  . Not everyone who is a video editor has been around since the time of the dinosaurs. You're complaining that an automobile isn't a horse, so it must be inferior to the horse. If we always continue to do things in exactly the same way, we will never make any progress.

Ya, that is off topic. WAY off topic. Why would you post that here? There's already threads started about this. Bah.
Enthusiasm. Haven't seen a thread about this new Bob Dylan Ad yet - only the ones by the fat & skinny guys.yes it is, and you already entioned it another discussion. and there is aready a dedicated discussion about it. so why spam this thread? You think my post is spam?

I'm sorry. I overlooked the new Dylan Thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=228809). Please forgive my enthusiasm.

No, but I sure would like to learn! My mid life crisis is right around the corner and I would like to buy a sports car preferably a convertible with a manual transmission. I realize it's clich but I still would like to do that! :)

Aye, now we only need the rest of the computer. Basically, just build a Mac Mini in a mini/midi tower, with a mainboard that allows you to install new hardware. And try to keep the price low.

    Here we go again...

Timeline of my usual events for an Apple conference, all times are in AEST:

10pm: Some sort of massive leak comes out and we all post madly about it.

11pm: Someone figures out the leak must be fake and we all post madly about it.

12am: The hour of silence as all the Americans try to grab a few hours sleep.

1am: The east-coast of the US starts to wake up and post madly about the leak - the Europeans post endless "It's a fake, here's the link." posts, the Aussies who are awake begin to get incoherent in their posts (who me?).

2am: The forums are brought to a halt by an influx of newbies asking what the chinese writing on this picture of a "Video I-Pod" means.

3am: Kick-off, macrumourslive starts running their text updates, I fall asleep at least three times during the conference and wake up each time hoping I haven't missed anything cool.

4am: Conference is either still going or winding down, if it's still going, I fall asleep yet again, if it's winding down I get a tab going and reloading apple.com/au till all the information comes online.

5am: Conference is definitely over, forum may be flakey but online - hundreds are disappointed and vow to "wait for rev B" whilst hundreds more are refuting their claims of disappointment with long posts about money. I don't care because I'm asleep.

11am: Wha? Who? Where? Oh yeah? Time to get up. Pack up laptop and hop down to the net caf to watch the Quicktime movies that have appeared on the Apple site at proper speed (not dial-up).

    1pm: Lunch somewhere.

2pm: Net caf again for uninterrupted stream of keynote.

3pm - 4pm: Reading forums for interesting tid-bits I'd missed, start thinking about a beer.

5pm: Pub, pretending not to be a Mac nerd who has just stayed up most the night looking at websites.

8pm: Home, dinner, hopefully not making the long distance call to Bourke on the porcelain telephone.

Thus endeth Apple Conference Day. For MWSF add 2 hours to the time.

Absolutely hysterical....but most likley very much on the mark.

Looks like there is a problem with 6.29 client (at least for mac) where if you get an a1 unit after an a3 one, something goes wrong.

dang. well all my computers are down back at my apartment, so my production will be very little. i just started folding on my mbp with an a3 unit, so we'll see how it goes

My Mom's iMac is on its last legs. I think I got it for her in early 2006 and its screen is having some streaking problems. Otherwise it still works, but a lot of the latest Apple software won't load on it. Once the refresh is out, I'm handing down my early 2008 iMac. That will be a big upgrade for her. I will get a new one for myself. I'm excited!

I suspect I will do what I always do though, I will look into the Mac Pro, price it out, hesitate, and then go buy the iMac again. I can never justify the money for the Pro.

Amazing that a thread on whether or not a person CAN drive a stick shift car has turned into a full blown debate on the merits of automatic vs manual transmissions. Personally I think this argument is similar to the Mac vs PC argument that has gone on for years, ultimately they're different, and a person should be able to use whichever one (or both) they choose for their own personal reasons. In both cases, transmissions and personal computers, they have their good points and their bad points. To each their own...

So are the MacBooks going to get Merom or not? I'm going to buy a black one, but am waiting to see.
The answer is yes and no. Yes, the MacBook will get a Merom based CPU, but not for a while... the MacBook Pro and iMacs will get Merom first.....

I think we should expect to see Merom based MacBooks in time for Christmas.
    :)

I am more interested in knowing what good or purpose this is even been added for?

plus unencrypted is a major privacy concern ... just of the top of my mind, I can see where someone's house could be broken into by tracking the owners whereabouts.

As opposed to the much easier method of everyone in your neighbourhood noticing you're at work all day?

There are many people whose movements are best kept secret from certain others, with risk of life if revealed.

Battered women or kids in a secret shelter home, witness protection participants, undercover agents of all sorts, dissidents and rebels.

On a less serious note, there are probably some bosses who gave out iPhones, checking company iTunes hosts this weekned to see if their employees' travel receipts and sick days match their movements.

A HUGE stretch. There are other, easier ways of finding people. People in witness protection . . . carry items and live in areas that suit their situation. They are told what to do and not to do by the authorities. Personal phones are taken into account. Duh!

Undercover agents? LOL WTF is this, Russia House? I'm pretty sure they're "UNDERCOVER", meaning, tracking them would be useless, since there is nothing advertising their personal information. All anyone would get is random location data that could belong to anyone.

Dumbest examples ever. And you're a smart guy otherwise, so it's surprising.

Then what was the point in the iPad?

I think the question should be - what would be the point of the iOS layer?

It's not like OS/X has no program support. Which would people rather run - the full OS/X iWork programs or the limited iOS versions on their desktop? And as others pointed out - some iOS programs require hardware support (GPS, accelerometers, etc) that an iMac wouldn't have or need.

iOS as a replacement for Dashboard? Maybe. I can see some apps replacing Dashboard programs and being more useful.

iOS could be used as a "front-end" for touch and gesture support, much the same way as HP has their touch-designed programs on top of Windows 7 for their all-in-one Touchsmart PC's.

Instead of touching the screen, the rumored Magic Pad, along with the current Magic Mouse brings full gesture support to iMac via the iOS layer. So, you would have a Magic Pad, a small wireless keyboard, and the Magic Mouse in front of you, and navigate that way.

But - will iAds come to the desktop now?

RIGHT-CLICK. COME ON APPLE, THIS ISN'T ROCKET SCIENCE.

Hi! How does it feel there in 1997? Tip for you: don't bet on the Cleveland Indians.

(And how do you know there's not a menu option for the same thing when right-clicking anyway?)
