Does any of you trade in Indian shares? If so, did you have to open the PIS NRE account to do trading in Indian shares ? I heard that NRI from USA can not use the normal demat account to do the trading in secondary market in India.

I have a trading account with IB, which I opened about 3 years ago. But now they need all trading account holders to provide their PAN information. They can not sell or purchase without that. My account is also in a suspended state becaus eof that(Good that I could not sell them,,, they are all about 3 times now :) )
I've applied for PAN and asked IB to provide info on what I need to do to convert my regular account to an NRI account.

Lately i see a lot of new members coming up in the forum, with lots of questions about their problems that they are facing. And lots of good hearted IV members also give their diligent answers for them. One hand I am glad IV is getting new members, on the other hand i am wondering where were these members all these days.
Please don't get me wrong, As much as I like new members joining in the forum to get answers for their questions, I also would expect them to take part in any the activities or initiatives that IV is undertaking. Therefore I urge, every new member to volunteer in the IV activities and be an active member of IV and be a participating member, so that IV helps you and you help IV. * There are four reauthorization legislative bills in the Congress. (1) Conrad 30 NIW bill , (2) Regional Center Pilot Investment bill (EB-5), (3) Nonministerial Religious Worker R-1 and Special Immigration bill, and (4) E-Verify Electronic Employment Authorization bill. The E-Verify reauthorization bill is very controversial adn currently facing a stong political opposition from political forces. The House passed the first three bills and forwarded to the Senate quite some time back, but as we reported on 08/02/2008, the Senate floor referred the bills to the Senate Judiciary at the last minute before the Senate left the Hill on August 2, 2008. These bills are currently presented to the Senate in two different formats: One is the format of the Senate's consent to each of these House bills separately. The other is Senator Specter's consolidated bill that put together all of these four bills into one bill. Obviously, Senator Specter's strategy must have been to tie the reauthorization bills to the controversial E-Verify Reauthorization bill. We reported that he apparently changed his mind and was pressuring the Senate Majority Leader to introduce E-Verify bill in the Senate first. Accordingly, it is unclear which strategies will work better to get these reauthorization bills passed in the Senate before they return to the election recess in early October.
* The Senate is scheduled to return to the session on September 5, 2008, Friday, and to pick up the defense appropriation billl debates. The House is not scheduled to return to the session until September 8, 2008, Monday. Procedurally, unless each of the reauthorization bills is consented by the Senate floor without amendment, they will have to go to the conference committee or the House just consent to the Senate's amendment. The problem is the House bills were referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee just before the recess and unless a sufficient political pressure is added to the Judiciary Committee Chairman Lehey, they are destined to go nowhere when it comes to the time frame. On the other hand, Senator's consolidated bill faces its own problem because of the E-Verify reauthorization proposal. Besides, even if the Senate floor quickly takes up this consolidated bill, since it is a Senate bill, it will have to be presented to the House for their consent for the Senate versions. At PortOfEntry, CBP officers are QUESTIONING IF you are working for the sponsoring employer and many folks just switched jobs with AC-21 with no valid H1B anymore.
Questions:
1. What are the Consequences at Port of Entry on travelling with AP and NOT working for the ORIGINAL GC sponsor?
2. Can anyone share thier experience what was the outcome at Port of Entry when the answer is "NO - I am not working with sponsoring employer anymore" Were they held at Portof Entry indefinitely ?
3. What Steps can anyone take when at CBP office/Immigration Official is NOT allowing you to re-enter US on Valid AP (I-485 pending) and you are NOT working for sponsoring employer and no valid H1B?

The onus lies on you to do the needful not US Government or IV. I have known people who left their well established career to take care of their folks. You are looking for the solution to your problem on this message board, however you need not look this far. Enough said.

We are here because of our good parents. Forgetting them is most disrespect we do in life.
If we don't care our parents, when we become older(parents) how will our kids will care us?.
Research are proving...if we live together as family like in olden days...many health issues will disappear...everybody will be happy, no stress.
We need to go back to older family system. Now we are proving...green is better. food is medicine. So why not staying together with parents is not good?. This lead us to have a strong long lasting life.

I was under the same impression that it was FP that triggered the name check. But this is what the lawyer told them that their names were struck in NC and that is why they never got FP and now that NC is over they received FP notices. The interesting part is that within 3 weeks of FP one person got a notice that his application has been sent to USCISlocal office for further processing which I assume means interview notice in few days.
How does a lawyer know if u r stuck in namecheck? Unless you go to infopass you may not know.
In reality, the app was just taken up for processing - the IO figured that FP has not yet been done and sent notice and during the course of processing the app, decided to send it for interview.

I have been in USA from 2000 and have been waiting for GC from 2004. Finally last year decided to buy and bought one. When I bought my house my kid was in 3rd grade, decided not to compromise on his education and bought a house in good school district.
All depends on personal situation. I am not considering house as an investment, just a place to live.

if i have to return to my country because of the immigration bs, it's this country's loss and the lender's loss - not mine. I did everything that I could... like an ideal citizen would do... and after all that if they want to kick me out, well then goodbye.
Also one thought (on an unrelated note, sorry!) - I see a lot of people on the forum posting about how they finally got their GC's after 10, 12, 15 years. I am really happy for them. Having said that, its not a matter a pride that people have to wait for so long to get GC. In fact it's a matter of shame! And by the way before anyone pounces on me, I take care of all action items that IV recommends :-) I am just saying that I feel bad when people have to wait for 10-15 years for their GC. My opinion is (coming back to our discussion) - I base none of my decisions on my GC process. I bought a house, decided to take a student loan to go back to school, changed my job and hopefully if all goes well, may even take a promotion pretty soon. GC my kiss my you know what. The process will go on on the side, but it won't affect my life in anyway.
Bottom line - whateva whateva, I do what I want! (for any South Park fans here)... haha..

1) USCIS still has not entered all the july and aug. filers. USCIS will have a good idea by Oct or Nov. how many applications are in the pipeline, how many they can approve and what the PD cut off date needs to be?
You are just repeating yourself. Show me the logic why entering all apps will retrogress the PD?
Let me give a concrete example. For India EB2, why would the PD not move from, say, April 2004 to January 2005, even if, say, 20 million people with priority date at 2006 apply for I485?
Understand the procedure first. With a better idea of applications in pipeline, you will see the PD movement to be better predicted, not retrogression.

This favours temporary workers on H1, L1 etc. An H1/L1 spouse can move to the US easily, but not that of a GC holder. If you want to bring out this "discrimination", that would mean to discontinue H4 visas, as seeminlgly it is a discrimination against a GC holder. Is that you are looking for?
EB3 discrimination is quite blatant. Folks with a date of March 2004 should be automatically considered EB2 based on five year experience. This is not just for EB3-I or EB2-I but for all chargeabilities.

I'm glued to C-SPAN whenever anything related to immigration is going on in the senate. This time I wasn't aware of it.
We need to be more alert this time. Maybe a phone campaign or web-fax campaign would have turned the scale! We gotta be more alert.
Don't worry. This is not the complete defeat yet, since this ammendment ties into the troops withdrawl bill. The president would have definately vetoed the bill.
The bigger thing is the SKILL ACT, which has yet to be at the floor. If we really want any success, we have to ensure that the immigration act is passed a a standalone act and not an ammendment to any other bill regarding defense.

The photograph folks don't ask any immigration documents, just the SSN original card. That's it.
I'm in the same boat. PA DoT wants to see visa stamp on the passport.. applied for 1st 3 year extn at VSC on 7/10, will up it to PP this week... anyone in PA got their DL renewed using RN... please specify how and where??

I revisited this thread today and saw several heartwrenching stories of some of our IV members. One way for IV to help you is through letting your situation be known to others via media. We have a few opportunities and if you are interested please send an email to himanshu at immigrationvoice.org. Do not PM me since my PM box gets filled very often.
It will not only help all of us generate awareness about our plight to american public, lawmakers too will be influenced by the magnitude of problems we face while waiting patiently in line for several years. I feel media is a great tool and we can use it very effectively when we all can get our message across in the world outside of this forum. Once we get IV members ready to volunteer for such interviews and to talk about their plight, IV will try its best to get their voices heard.
It will not only help all of us generate awareness about our plight to american public, lawmakers too will be influenced by the magnitude of problems we face while waiting patiently in line for several years. I feel media is a great tool and we can use it very effectively when we all can get our message across in the world outside of this forum.
